Eric Bautista, Sports Editor
Being the sports editor for the paper has allowed me to do many cool things, from just talking about professional sports that are attached, interviewing people for in-depth articles, and writing reviews about media I see. Journalism has allowed me to express my interests in sports and overall in writing. I love watching sports as well as talking about them, which is the main reason why Mr. Cornell even made me sports editor to begin with.
In my free time, aside from watching sports, I love playing video games with my favorite games being Rainbow Six Siege and FC26 (formerly known as FIFA). I am relatively okay at Siege, but I have been a top 200 player in the NA region in Ultimate Team in FC/FIFA multiple times without spending any money on the game (though I don’t really play ultimate team anymore because I find it unenjoyable and pay-to-win).
I am also a part of BPA in which I have made it to states. I made it to states for both of my events which were Economic Research team and Legal Office Procedures. Furthermore, I hope that for both of them I can progress to nationals even though it is only a few people that are able to progress.
In professional sports, my favorite soccer team is Arsenal FC (COYG), my favorite football team is the San Francisco 49ers, and my favorite NBA team is the Miami Heat, I chose to support all of these teams when I was around 7 or 8 because I loved the color red, and since then, I have seen none of these teams win anything aside from a couple FA cups, a community shield, and some NFC championships. So if I look like I have some biases in my articles, that is where they come from.
The sports I have played are soccer and football. I played soccer until I was around 12-13 and then played football my freshman year. I enjoyed both experiences but stepped away from football mainly because I didn’t feel like I could manage my time well enough to do football.
As the sports editor for the WPP this year, I would like to do more articles about different sports and with some of our winter sports coming to an end, I am looking forward to covering spring sports and everything that comes along with that. I just want to put out as many high quality articles as I can this year and make sure that all the sports articles we do get end up being high quality. Overall I believe that this semester I will produce far more and far better articles than the last.
