Do you want a place to play chess and eat snacks? Well, you’re in luck: Chess Club has these opportunities and more, and started on November 5th.
There is a meeting the first and the third Wednesday of every month in Mr. Retan’s room, 2213. At each meeting, you can learn how to play chess and play the game with other people. “There are a lot of nice students in the group that are willing to share how to play chess,” Mr. Retan stated, so feel free to come and play.
To join a chess club, all you need to do is show up to the next meeting.
“I have a permission slip that students are going to need to get signed to be a part of the club,” Retan explained. “..but beyond that all you need to do is show up.”
If you are wondering why you should join Wyo chess club, there are many reasons.“It is a great place to hang out with good snacks and delightful people,” Retan explained.
If you are scared of being judged because you have never played or are not that good, do not worry.”There are a lot of pleasant students in the group that are willing to share how to play chess and the rules” Mr. Retain stated, so if you have never played, it is the perfect opportunity to learn.
Mr. Retan says that he started the chess club after watching the queen’s gambit. “I saw how passionate people were about it,” Mr. Retad said. “It got me excited to learn more”. He then says he would play chess regularly on his phone (however, he said that he was not exceptional).
After developing a passion for chess around 4 years ago, Retan saw that there were students that wanted a place to play chess.
“I realized that they wanted a place to play chess, so I decided it was a great opportunity for me to start chess club,” Retan explained. Not long after that, realizing that students wanted a place to play chess, he started chess club.
If you are interested in the chess club, just show up to the next meeting. Chess club is open to everyone, even if you have never played chess, or if you are exceptional. Either way, you are welcome to come on over and play.
