In the World Cup, it is possible for one of the weakest teams to win their group and end up getting to the semi-finals. This is what Morocco did in group F of the 2022 World Cup. They were predicted to be last place in their group stage. Ultimately they ended up making it to the semi-finals and getting 4th place in the tournament.

Some people’s predictions can be different from each others, so I interviewed one of the biggest soccer fans I know, freshman Guadalupe Hernandez Sanchez.

What is the team that you predict will win the World Cup and why?

‘’I predict that Spain will win because due to their previous games they have won for most of them. They won the Euros in 2024 and made it to the final in the nations league in 2025. They have had many good young prospects.’’

What is one big team that you predict to be majorly upset?

‘’As a Mexico fan I sadly believe that Mexico will be the team to have a major upset due to their previous games against really small countries. Almost like in the last edition of the cup in 2022 they ended up placing third which eliminated them from the group stages when they were predicted to get second.’’

What is one small team that will make a surprise run in this World Cup?

‘’I think that South Korea will make a surprise run in this World Cup because they haven't been a bad team and the players that they have in Europe are actually not bad at all. Even though they were trampled by Brazil in the last 16, 4-1, they weren't a bad team in the cup at all.’’

The World Cup is an exciting event that will last from June 11 to July 19 of this year. Most people are really excited and can't wait for it to start. Do you think these predictions are accurate or do you think there are other teams that should be noticed in these predictions?
