Last Friday, the Wyoming Wolves girls basketball team made history by winning districts for the first time in years.
The girls, led by Coach Perkey, got the win by playing against East Kentwood (nicknamed EK) in our very own gym. It wasn’t just the home turf advantage though, as the girls basketball team has had an amazing season with impressive wins in districts all around, no matter the gym. The girls used all of the tips and advantages that they've gained throughout the season and won with a 5 point lead, the final score being 54 to 49.
The team has a game tonight for the 2025-2026 season semi final regionals, where just a couple wins can get them to states. In the semi finals game tonight, March 9, the team will play against Grand Haven at Zeeland East High School. While tickets are unfortunately $9 dollars, the price is worth it to support our team at an important conference.
Because of the importance of this game for Wyoming Athletics, Principal Baumbach and Athletic Director Hollern have decided to fork out some funds to send out a spirit bus to the school for any students that want to attend. Although the students will need to buy a ticket and have a permission slip signed to board the bus, scholars are still thrilled to be able to support our amazing girls basketball team. All students were emailed a permission form for their parents to fill out by Mr. Hollern, and the slip just needs to be filled out by parents and emailed to the spirit bus chaperone Mr. Underhill by 4:30 for attendance to be permitted. The bus leaves the high school at 5:45 PM, and will be arriving back at WHS by 9:00 PM where students are expected to have rides waiting.
If students want to attend but do not want to ride the spirit bus, they may attend using their own transportation for the game that starts at 7 PM.
The girls basketball team represents Wyoming High School incredibly well, and regardless of their performance tonight, WHS will always be proud of them. Despite this, the students and staff alike believe in the team and are excited to see how far they’ll go.
