After a lengthy hiatus due to renovations and setbacks, on March 24th, the Wyoming Theater Company held their first comeback production at the Fine Arts Center at the Junior High.
The production contained a song from past performances, paying homage to and highlighting each of the previous productions. Titled “From Memory To Imagination”, the setlist was composed of:
“Be Our Guest” from Beauty and The Beast, “Over The Rainbow” from The Wizard Of Oz, “Middle of a Moment” from James and the Giant Peach, “Pure Imagination” from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, “Memory” from Cats, and “Puttin’ On The Ritz” from Young Frankenstein.
The production was in collaboration with Mrs. Millers’ choir students and the Theater club, the choir providing the background vocals and subtle visuals to each song while the performance highlighted the main soloist of a song.
“From Memory To Imagination” was an incredible performance to be able to experience and was an amazing production to put on for the revival of the theater company. Introducing the new and returning cast of talented performers by highlighting each of their abilities through powerful solos and humorous stage presence, immersing the audience into each world of the spotlighted production through each actors ability to encapture the attention of a crowd and the incredible stage direction with vibrant lighting, immersive entrances and captivating visuals from the choir.
Each number was incredibly well-executed and the transitions into each production were seamless and allowed for the audience to settle into the world of the next song as they leave the previous. The performances of the soloists in every act stayed with me after the showcase. In the opening act “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and The Beast–an act executed perfectly from soloists Ameilia Potter as Lumiere and Lily McKenney as Mrs. Potts, as well as the vibrant and extravagant costumes for each of the characters which perfectly characterize their animated counterparts.
Viewing from the audience, I was absolutely enamoured by the entire performance, every song was special and unique to itself. A song that stood out the most to me was “Over The Rainbow”, bringing the world of Oz to the stage with minimal props and reliance on the lighting and the actors’ performance–which was incredible, the movement and introduction of each character during “Over The Rainbow” was endearing and the fun transition to “You’re Off To See The Wizard” left me hooked and engaged in the production.
“From Memory To Imagination” is an incredible comeback production for the Wyoming Theater Company and did an amazing job of leaving the audience excited for what’s to come next year’s season
