Ashley Morales Vega, Arts & Entertainment Editor
Expressing myself has always been an underdeveloped skill for me, being able to verbally illustrate how I feel and my plethora of interests continues to be a continuing struggle. Yet, I’ve found many ways to work around that obstacle, one of which has been through writing.
Expressing myself through writing has been a primary outlet for me and has assisted me with avoiding bottling up creativity and my opinions. Among the many forms of writing, journalism has been the one to pique my interest the most.
I started being involved with the Wyoming Wolf Pack Press this year and I’m currently the editor for the entertainment section and have gotten the privilege of having my own column–Ash’s Corner–in the entertainment tab, although I do feel a bit selfish having a column, I can’t say I don’t enjoy writing for myself first and for the paper second.
Alongside my interest in writing, I’m very interested in music. Some of my favorite bands are Ween, The Cure, Cocteau Twins and Dazey & The Scouts, the main genres I gravitate towards the most are alt-rock and shoegaze. I’ve never let myself be limited with the music I listen to though, I always try to branch out and explore different genres and bands which is a great trait to have when you write about music, allowing yourself to be unbiased and recognize whether or not certain music is bad or just unfamiliar. I find writing about my taste in music or my opinions on music very refreshing and allows me to express my opinions that I would normally just keep to myself.
Outside of music, I love watching shows, this hobby does tend to be very detrimental to my productivity but I manage! I enjoy a lot of different shows but I’ve been very into drama and crime shows. I watched The Sopranos over the summer–which was absolutely phenomenal–and I started Hannibal recently. I’m currently on season 2 and I’ve been loving it so far.
I don’t have many other hobbies besides writing and consuming music and shows. That being said, I try to fill my days with activities outside of school like clubs and sports. I’m on the tennis team and I’m in Key Club, National Honors Society, Student Council, Culture Club and I’m vice president for the Junior board. Keeping myself busy is very important to me and helps with better voicing myself and socializing which will always be good for me.
I really enjoy writing for the Wolf Pack Press and I hope I’m going to be able to continue writing and editing articles..!
