WHS has quite the tenacious tennis team.
Coach Reynolds and the team captain Fernando Picazo make sure the team is sharp and playing to their highest ability. It’s filled with many different players with a wide variety of skills. Although the team has had many downs this season they are as confident and hungry for victory as ever. As First year tennis player Joshua L says, ”On the court there is no room for defeat, only dominance”.
Out of the 15 players on this motivated tennis team one player stood out to us the most. Like a sunflower in a garden of roses he stuck out like a sore thumb in the best way possible. He undoubtedly had some of the most grit and tenacity out of any athlete we’ve seen through high school. Only starting 2 years ago 11th grade prodigy varsity tennis player Diego Deleon Lopez hits some of the most perfectly timed satisfying spikes and serves. Diego credits his success to ” his focus, training with friends, and training with coaches .” He sure ended off his senior season with a bang.
The Tennis team recently attended a tournament in which multiple schools participated. Wyoming’s tennis team went against West Catholic and Wayland. The tournament took place in two different schools. Half the team went to South Catholic while the other half went to Thornapple Kellogg. Despite not winning many games the team still had a large amount of fun and even brought a medal home. Although the season ended in loss, the team does not view it as a negative, but as motivation to get better and have an even more amazing season next year.
