How I Met Your Mother is a TV comedy sitcom show with drama, romance, and melodrama from 2005, a time when watching TV was at its peak and brought joy to all viewers across the country.
The show stars Josh Radnor as Ted Mosby, a hopeless romantic telling his kids the story of how he met their mother while on a convoluted and hilarious misguided quest searching for a woman to be “The One”. It begins after his longtime best friend Marshall plans to propose to his girlfriend Lily. Ted feels the need to move forwards to find true love, so against his better judgment he relies on his self-proclaimed best friend/wingman Barney to help him find someone.
The show mainly focuses on humor with drama among the characters and development for themselves and each other occurs as the show moves forward.
Ted occasionally finds partners who potentially could’ve been “The One” such as Robin Sherbatsky. A news reporter who quickly becomes a part of his friend group and tries to properly enter a relationship with her, but things don’t go as planned.
The show ran for 9 seasons gaining the rating of 9.5/10 with one of its most memorable episodes titled “Slap Bet” from season 2. However, in my opinion the most memorable episode is in season 8 titled “The Time Travelers” where it’s most iconic quote “Look around Ted. You’re all alone”. Is a message about the loneliness someone experiences despite being surrounded by friends. Ted realizes he’s been clinging to the past and needs to accept that his friends are moving onto new life stages such as getting married, having kids, and needs to stop living in the past to do the same.
The show had a good run catching the attention of new generations with clips from episodes appearing on social media such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube even to this day in 2026 despite ending in 2014 with Ted finally finishing the story of he met his kid’s mother.
However, when it came to the final season, it wasn’t great. The whole season felt rushed, and it ruined years of character development for Barney and Robin. It was so bad the creator of the show had to make a canon alternate ending to appease fans and I must agree that the alternate ending was better than the original.
