Things To Do For Halloween
Author: Vanessa Castillo
It’s finally October and Halloween is just around the corner. It’s a great time to get together with family and friends and eat candy and watch the whole “Scream” franchise. But the most exciting thing to do during this time is to get out of the house and go do some attractions and events that could be going around your area. So I will be telling you the top events you can visit this month for Halloween in West Michigan.
“The Haunt” is located at 1256 28th Street SW in Wyoming, MI. Since it is literally right next to the high school, a lot of teenagers are expected to be visiting there. It’s a great activity to do with your friends if you would like to throw in some extra screams into your Halloween. This place has been up already for over 20 years and starts on September 29th through November 4th. But The Haunt is also offering a non-scary event for kids only on October 29th, which I think is great if you want to bring a younger sibling or cousin to do something. The prices for the tickets aren’t too bad which is $30 for general admission, $50 VIP/fast pass, and for a group of 12 or more is $25 each person. But an exciting thing about The Haunt is they have brand new story lines this year.
The themes this year are Alice in Wonderland, abandoned hospital, A snake gang/cult, A boy trapped in his room, and an abandoned tunnel underneath the circus. To read more about this go to The Haunts website! https://the-haunt.com/the-stories/
Another great event to do in West Michigan is an “Abandoned Acres Farm Haunted Attraction”. Its located at 7737 Fruit Ridge Ave NW in Sparta Michigan. The drive is only 25 minutes from Wyoming and the event started on September 22nd and closes on Halloween night. This consists of 2 different types of storylines that are based in this corn field. One is called The Bloody Butcher Corn Maze which is full of Mutant Pumpkins, Witches, Hillbillies, Wandering Corpses, Scarecrows and other insane farm animals. The second maze is called Big Top TerrorVision Corn Maze and is Carnival themed full of crazed clowns, misfits and deranged circus animals in a 3D environment (3D Glasses Included). I think it’s great if there’s something scary and different you want to do with your friends for Halloween and get a really good scare like you’re in a horror movie. But please read the disclaimers and warnings on the website for safety reasons and know what you’re getting yourself into.
For general admission the tickets are only $35 each for all attractions and $55 for fast pass. They also offer many other types of pg13 attractions for families and also a haunted escape room. To find out more about this attraction visit their website! https://abandonedacresfarm.com/index.html
Now to do something a little more light hearted evening at Candlelight: A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics. It’s at Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids. Its a laid back concert of classical music playing classic Halloween songs. The room is dimmed as well so you can take a nap during the concert if you want to. This is something you could do with your family if you are wanting to do something that’s not very scary. I think it’s a good opportunity to really just take a breather and enjoy the moment of music. The great thing is you can bring your grandparent out too and enjoy it together!
The event starts on October 28th at 6pm! It’s $30 for each person. Guests 16 and younger must be present with an adult. The stadium is first come, first serve so no assigned seating. To learn more and/or get tickets for the event, please visit this website. https://feverup.com/m/117944
Last but not least the event I will be recommending is “Witches of New Salem”. Its located on 4516 24th St, Dorr, MI 49323. This Halloween event is one of the most famous and has one of the most highly anticipated attractions. It has a corn maze but also provides food, drinks, pumpkin patch, animals, etc. It has something for everyone and all ages can enjoy and do different things. They have both daytime and night time activities for you to enjoy. There are 3 attractions that are the most popular at this event that will make you scream. One is called Zombie Attack which is where you get to shoot paintballs at the zombies and try to survive the apocalypse. Another is The Haunted Corn Maze which takes place at night and tries to find a way out of the maze while being stalked by monsters. The last one is a top attraction and is called Witch’s Woods. This one is obviously in the woods but it’s a woods that will leave you peeing your pants. Their are 2 trails you could take and both have different visitors sitting and waiting for a good scare.
The available days for this event are all on Fridays, Sundays and Saturdays until October 29th. You can come during 11am through 6pm on the provided days. The tickets for the night time attractions sell in person at 6pm and start at dusk for $25 per person. These are all the most anticipated and recommended attractions in West Michigan. It’s good to really get out and do some fun things with friends. So hopefully I’ll get to see you at one of these fun spooky events because I’ll most definitely be there.
