In Las Vegas, Nevada, WWE held their biggest annual event of the year, WrestleMania. This is the 41st WrestleMania to take place. The event is separated into two nights. Night 1 of WrestleMania 41 was held on April 19th.
I thought that this was a decent event. Night 1 may not have been perfect, but it was still very entertaining. This event had 3 big matches everyone was looking forward to. These include Gunther defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Royal Rumble winner, Jey Uso, Tiffany Stratton defending the WWE Women’s Championship against Royal Rumble winner, Charlotte Flair, and the big main event, CM Punk Vs. Roman Reigns Vs. Seth Rollins.
There were good moments and matches at this event that not only entertained me, but surprised me.
Jey Uso won the World Heavyweight Championship from Gunther after making him tap out. Jey is only the second person to do that, so it was really surprising. The match was good and pretty underrated. Naomi Vs. Jade Cargill was another good match. Naomi is a really good wrestler and even though Jade Cargill is still learning, she is improving a lot. Jade even caught Naomi perfectly and hit moves that require lots of strength. It’s clear Jade will be a future women’s champion. Jade did win this match, continuing her momentum. LA Knight defended his United States Championship against Jacob Fatu. This was an amazing match. These two have lots of chemistry and both are great talents inside the ring. LA Knight hit his finisher called the BFT in midair while Fatu tried to hit a moonsault. However, in the end, Jacob Fatu was able to win and become United States Champion in his first WrestleMania match. Another really good match was Tiffany Stratton defending the WWE Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair. Charlotte is annoying, and most fans don’t like her, including me, but she is good at what she does. This was a good match, but thankfully, Tiffany retained. She did have a chipped tooth at the end, but that got fixed pretty quickly. The main event of the show was CM Punk Vs. Roman Reigns Vs. Seth Rollins in a triple threat match. These three have been in an intense rivalry. This rivalry involves Paul Heyman, who is Roman’s wiseman, but also CM Punk’s friend. Paul Heyman was in CM Punk’s corner, as he owed Punk a favor. Seth was there, because he hates both Roman and CM Punk. As always, Seth Rollins wore beautiful gear. Roman Reigns did actually change up his gear a bit, which was rare. He wore white gauntlets and boots instead of red gauntlets and boots. CM Punk got a live performance of his theme song, Cult of Personality by Living Colour. This was a fantastic show and made Night 1 great. All three of them were doing the best they could to win. There were many moments where it could’ve gone either way, each wrestler got close to winning. But in the end, Paul Heyman low blowed CM Punk, turning against his friend. Roman was happy, because Paul was on his side, but Paul Heyman also low blowed and turned against Roman. This resulted in Seth Rollins winning, after pinning Roman Reigns.
The title changes were entertaining to see.
Many titles changed that night. Jey Uso won the World Heavyweight Championship, a title nobody thought he’d win if you go back 10 years when he was a tag team wrestler with his brother, Jimmy Uso. It really shows the growth and development of Jey Uso over the years. He earned this title, the crowd was behind him. The New Day did capture the WWE World Tag Team Championships from the War Raiders on this show in a rather lackluster match, but this is their 13th tag team championship win. It’s big for them, as they got the most tag team title reigns. Jacob Fatu winning the United States Championship was a big moment for him. It’s his first championship in the WWE, as he had only gotten into WWE almost a year ago. He is already a very great wrestler in the ring, and he’ll have a bright future in the WWE. All these title changes show a new phase in this WWE’s era, with champions we haven’t seen before like Jey Uso as world champion, and Jacob Fatu as United States Champion, and then there’s veterans like the New Day with the tag team titles.
Overall, I would rate this event a 3.5 out of 5 stars. This wasn’t perfect, but a good show. The problem was it didn’t have that much of a WrestleMania feel, but I still really enjoyed the event.
