When you want to sit in a quiet open area that leaves much room from distraction you would have in a classrom, some students manage their time using a breakout room. Other students think it is amusing breaking the rules for others to not be able to use the breakout rooms.Students should be allowed to go into the breakout rooms because It may give students a better place to focus and get work done in a quiet setting.Students should use the breakout rooms because it would look unusual if nobody was in any of the breakout rooms. Teachers and students have different opinions about the breakout rooms. Teachers think students should only go out in the breakout if they have a pass and have a curtain assignment in order to go into the breakout rooms. ”I think students using breakout rooms can be benifical when the teacher gives them a specific assignment that they have to finish during the class period,so they have to get something done and they’re very busy,” said Cornell. “I don’t think that just sending students to break out rooms works because they tend to hang out.”
Likewise, students have mixed reviews too. Some say it helps them focus on their work with no distractions and it’s much easier to get work done, while others agree misuse happens.“It helps me by focusing on my work and no one is distracting me,” Giovonni Mejias said. ‘I can listen to music and just be in my own zone It makes me focus more and make me less distracted from other people and not worrying about other things.”
On the other hand, Tina Vo has a different viewpoint. “I think they can be misused a lot as wel,” she said.
Alanis Roman agrees with Vo. ”I do feel like they can be misused and also the breakout rooms are used as offices which can be kinda annoying,” she said.
I believe even though the breakout rooms are misused, students should have an opportunity to use the breakout rooms to do their homework in order to prove that they can be productive and use the breakout rooms.
Sometimes breakouts are used to have a quiet setting to do homework.”When I go in the breakout room I usually sit there peace and quiet and I do my work,” said Mackenzue Burgess.
Breakout rooms also help students to not just focus, but listen to music while trying to get work done.”I usually put on my headphones and do whatever work I have to do whether it’s doing a flow map or writing a paper,” Roman said.
