Netflix has released many new originals recently, one being brought to popularity rapidly. Based on a true story, the show Griselda is about a notorious Colombian drug lord named Griselda Blanco. The star of the show portraying Griselda is Sofia Vergara, which finally gets her the role of someone that is powerful, and isn’t used as the “not so smart Latina” that “doesn’t speak English well” of the cast. The show is bilingual, most of it being in Spanish with English every now and then.
Released on January 25th, the show quickly rose to Top 10 Shows in a week. Griselda stars Sofia Vergara, Alberto Guerra, Vanessa Ferlito, and even Karol G makes an appearance. This show is more graphic and rated R, so be cautious while watching it and with whom. It first takes place in Medellin, Colombia, and moves between there and Miami, Florida. With only her 3 sons and a kilo of coke, Griselda rushingly traveled to Miami, Florida in an attempt to make something for herself while running away from her ex-husband and his drug lord brother they worked for. Griselda attempts to find huge drug lords in Miami, not taking no for an answer. While doing so, she brings friends from Medellin, helping the start of career by smuggling foreign coke with them.
Being a popular show automatically will bring good reviews, as well as bad. Some people, including Griselda’s only living son, were not a fan of how Sofia portrayed her. Michael stated that his mother was a “beautiful woman” and that she was called “the porcelain doll in her youth” which many people have made it known that they disagree with. Back then, Griselda Blanco was considered beautiful and captivating to men. However, after the show brought her more attention, people started searching for her real pictures and made fun of her appearance. Beautiful or ugly, Griselda was a powerful woman. Pablo Escobar was even afraid of her and only her. The show gained even more attention on TikTok when everyone was mimicking the tracing movement “Griselda” made while using random objects to recreate the scene.
Love it or hate it, Griselda has done big numbers, with an overall rating of 4.2 stars. However, the show has died down since its release. I would definitely recommend giving it a watch. The show has a total of 6 episodes, all around an hour long. Check it out on Netflix today! P.S- The cast is pretty attractive.
