As the school year progresses, many students are contemplating their futures, but few are as focused on school and personal development as Vanessa Gonzalez-Rodriguez, a senior at Wyoming High School. With aspirations of becoming a teacher and a strong connection toward social work, she is already laying the groundwork.
Vanessa is a bright girl who has long, flowing hair and glasses. She serves as the secretary for the Key Club, where her skills and attention to detail truly shine. Vanessa keeps everything running smoothly, from scheduling meetings to managing club activities.
“I do want to be a teacher,” Vanessa shares, “but I’d go more for a social worker.” This interest highlights her desire to impact children’s lives positively, whether through education or direct social support.
Vanessa balances her academic pursuits with many different extracurricular activities, participating in six clubs, including the student council, senior committee, book club, key club, NHS, and NHAS.
Her commitment to these clubs demonstrates her leadership skills and passion for community engagement. “I like to read and volunteer,” she mentions, emphasizing her personal growth and helping others.
An unexpected hobby has also found its way into Vanesa’s life. “I like making eternal roses. I don’t sell them; I just do it for fun,” she explains. This creative activity adds a personal touch to her, allowing her to express herself outside of academics.
Vanessa’s academic journey has helped her in great ways. “I liked AP Lang; it grew me as a person and as a writer,” she reflects.
While she recognizes that WHS may need some work she appreciates the opportunities it has provided, “this school has its flaws, but it is a good school,” Vanessa says.
