The Super Bowl is a major annual event in the National Football League. Every Superbowl, the famed halftime show brings out prominent artists to perform for those 30 minutes; they have featured big names like Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Prince, and more. Last year’s Super Bowl halftime performer was Kendrick Lamar, who incorporated political themes into his performance, conveying various anti-Trump messages throughout.
It is rumored that Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican singer, will do the same in his 2026 halftime appearance. He hasn’t performed any concerts in America on his current world tour due to immigration issues, as he tries to protect his fandom from any potential problems with ICE. Many white Americans have an issue with a Latin singer performing at an American game, mostly because of Bad Bunny’s strong political stance on the whole situation with immigration and Donald Trump’s incompetence regarding Puerto Rico. There have been many arguments about Bad Bunny performing at the Super Bowl, claiming he’s not a US citizen, even though Puerto Rico is a territory of the USA.
Fox News had its own thoughts on Bad Bunny. They have only talked about the negative feedback Bad Bunny has been receiving from NFL fans on their broadcast, arguing that he’s not an American, so why perform at an American game? Bad Bunny clapped back at Fox in his SNL monologue, joking that everyone has 4 months to learn Spanish for the show.
Some students have their own opinions on Bad Bunny being the 2026 halftime performer, one of them being junior Adileni Hernandez. “He has good music, and is entertaining,” Adileni stated. “The only people that are hating are the whites since they don’t get the hype.”
I truly believe that Bad Bunny will be a good performer and will send out a powerful message to the United States. It’s beautiful seeing how powerful Latin artists are going to bigger places. Although he only sings in Spanish, he has a good vibe and good music that everyone can enjoy. On TikTok, there are thousands of English-only speakers practicing how to speak and listen to his songs so they can vibe with him as well. I hope that everyone will enjoy Bad Bunny’s performance this upcoming February, and that America will listen to what he has to say.
