On Friday, September 12, the annual homecoming carnival took place in Wyoming High School’s soccer field. Various clubs and schools in the district magnanimously volunteered in the blazing heat, creating a night to remember for students and parents alike.
This year’s homecoming carnival was a production of the Student Council, led by the advisor, Mrs. Bunton. Although this was her first year doing the event, she stepped up for the sake of the school and kept everything running smoothly. Even though she’s still learning the ropes of making school wide events, Mrs. Bunton’s passion and dedication as a teacher and a member of the Wyoming community makes her events all the more special.
Every year, a majority of the stations tend to stay the same. For example, for the Key Club, it’s always the toilet toss, while for the National Art Honors Society, they stick to their talents and run the face painting table. Although each of these are returning games, they’ve become a classic in carnival history, and scholars at WPS enjoy it every year all the same.
“I’ve been playing the same games here since I was just a kid,” junior Sofia Barajas-Gutierrez said. “Every year, it makes me feel nostalgic, like I’m experiencing it just the same as I did when I was in second grade.”
A lot of the high school students that attend each year have been going to the homecoming carnival every year since they could remember. Some even became the volunteers that younger-them had always thought was the epitome of cool. Naturally, though, things have changed over time.
“It’s cool to go from the perspective of being excited to go to the carnival, and now working it and seeing all the excited kids,” junior Teagyn Ager said. “Seeing all the work that goes into making the carnival work has made me appreciate everyone who has been a part of the process since I was a kid.”
Although this year might be hard to beat, next year’s carnival will be even better. I think I can speak for all students when I say that we are excited!
