Do you like weird-looking cats? So do I! Over the years, I’ve collected cat Instagram accounts like Pokémon. Their funny expressions make me smile every time I open social media. However, I recently discovered an account with a cat that has captured my heart, Gumbus!
Gumbus is a two-year-old light brown short-haired cat with one very noticeable feature that sets her apart from everyone else: her large eyes. Her 240 posts consist of outfit showcases, guided meditations, and montages of her biting people, accompanied by funny voice-overs. But don’t worry, the biting doesn’t hurt! Another feature that makes Gumbus unique is that she’s also toothless, which makes for some funny cat faces.
However, why her teeth were removed is anything but funny. Poor Gumbus had a cleft palate, most of her teeth were still in her gums, cysts were forming on all of her teeth, and some were growing into her nose as well as her eyes. Her owner found out through a visit to a new veterinarian, who recommended the life-saving surgery Gumbus went through to remove her teeth. “So yes, she has no teeth and now she is a very happy lady,” Gumbus’s owner explained in one of her more recent Instagram posts.
My personal favorite Gumbus posts are the outfit reviews. She tries on different dresses or hats that her followers have kindly donated and makes funny faces at the camera, all while enjoying a nice cat treat. The best Gumbus outfit, in my opinion, is her little star hat.
