Singing about a famous dead horse named Li’l Sebastian is not a normal thing to experience in your town. But in the city of Pawnee, Indiana, this is almost a weekly occurrence.
Parks and Recreation is a binge-worthy sitcom that streams on Peacock. It mainly follows Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) as she works her way up in her city government. The show also includes Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones), April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza), and Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt). Leslie and her friends go on countless adventures while developing deep friendships and a love of government (but not Ron).
Good shows have mediocre episodes, phenomenal shows have superb episodes. Parks and Recreation is a phenomenal show. The best episode by far is season 3, episode 16, “Li’l Sebastian”. In this episode, we see how the parks department reacts to the death of their favorite horse friend. This episode is just so emotional, and it is very interesting to see how different characters react and deal with the death.
You also cannot have a phenomenal show without having above-average characters. Leslie Knope and Ron Swanson have incredible chemistry throughout the show. Often, Leslie runs around feeling almost too energetic and passionate, but Ron is always there to balance her out. They are both integral parts of the Pawnee government, and without one of them, the entire show would fall apart.
[In a time when the government is being talked about almost constantly, it is nice to have a view of the government that is not always terrible. Because the show is based on a parks and recreation department, viewers are easily able to digest the show and laugh along with the rather unserious problems we see Leslie face. We don’t have to watch them struggle with wars and poverty, only dead horses and the fight to make a new park.
While shows like The Office and Friends are more popular than Parks and Recreation, it can definitely hold its own. It’s often said that Parks and Recreation is slow and not nearly as funny, but in my opinion, it does all of that and more. It is the perfect show to sit down and binge while doing other work.

About the Contributor

Choir has played a significant role in my life. It’s been my favorite class since 7th grade. I enjoy singing with my friends and making lasting memories with them. I also love Mrs. Miller. She has been very influential in my development over the past six years. She is the reason I have stayed in choir. Honors choir has been especially enjoyable because it has pushed me to become a better singer and make new friends.
At home, I skip around, singing my favorite musicals. My current favorite shows to sing are Hamilton, Wicked, and Moulin Rouge. These shows are wonderful and I love to annoy my family by singing them. I would trade my firstborn for any ticket to any Broadway Show.
Running has become a hobby of mine that I look forward to. I ran XC for the past two years at the school. I’ll treasure those experiences for the rest of my life. I love to run in the summer and to feel the sun on my skin.
I love to plant things and then forget to water them. I have tried to keep many plants alive, but I can’t. My favorite flower is a Dahlia, and my favorite plant is the Monstera. I would like to plant both of these in my future greenhouse.
One last thing: I hate writing.
