Ego, In my opinion, is the driving force that makes all athletes great.
The greatest athletes know they can do what they do, and they believe in themselves due to their ego. It makes you do crazier things than a regular person would even attempt because they don't have the egotistical mindset to do so. This is what Blue Lock is about.
It all starts in the main character, Isagi Yoichi’s high school, Ichiban High School. He plays on his school's soccer team and is in a game that may bring his team to nationals. He is determined to score for his team, but due to his lack of ego, he passes the ball to his teammate, and his teammate misses. Unfortunately, that miss makes them lose the game 2-1, kicking them out of the playoffs. This moment should lead him to realize he wants more out of soccer to be the one scoring the goals.
The next day, he gets an invite to go to the Japanese Soccer Headquarters, where they unveil Project Blue Lock to him and hundreds of other top prospect high schoolers. Where the egotistical mindset that Isagi is looking for is crafted and Isagi was sold, he was the first person to run through that door into a harsh, grueling training environment.
He would train here for months, climbing the ranks from the bottom, defeating top talent and evolving during every game. His ego grew tremendously daily, eventually, the time would come when Blue Lock had to get ready to play the U-20 Japan national team. Isagi and his team have to use everything they've learned, the people they've defeated, and the ego they've acquired, to absolutely destroy the Japanese team. If they lose, the Blue Lock program is canceled and all of their dreams to bring Japan a World Cup are gone.
This exhilarating matchup is just one of the many matches that make Blue Lock such an amazing show. It is also currently extremely popular amongst the soccer community and the anime community. If there's a show I suggest you watch, and you love anime, watch Blue Lock, you'll love it.
