The Minecraft Movie was a huge hit, but not for all the right reasons. The actual movie wasn’t the best.
The Movie was about the Minecraft game coming to life, but the movie didn’t capture the actual Minecraft gameplay aspect. The movie starts off by introducing the 4 main characters: Garret Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks). It shows how all of them do not fit into societal norms and can’t seem to find a way to be liked by others. They are all transported to the Minecraft world where they are saved by Steve (Jack Black). Steve tells them he can take them home, but first, the four characters are shown around a village where they are attacked by Malgosha (Allan Henry) and his army. From there, the main characters decide to stay with Steve to help save the Minecraft world. They embark on a quest to defeat Malgosha and finally get back home
The whole direction of the movie wasn’t right; the point of Minecraft is to defeat the ender dragon, but in the movie, they didn’t even mention it or show it. Most of the movie doesn’t correlate to the actual game; some of the scenes in the movie that were shown weren’t even a part of the actual gameplay.
In the movie, it shows Malgosha’s army riding a hot air balloon powered by ghast, but in the actual game, that didn’t exist before the movie until Minecraft updated its game, and users are now able to ride the ghasts in the overworld. I understand that movies are usually different from books or shows, or in this case, games, but they changed the whole objective of the actual game.
It’s not worth watching. Especially if you want to see something that is anything like the game. The movie is partially good because of Jack Black’s comedic phrases and his well-performed acting. Without him, the storyline of the movie would just be boring because every other actor isn’t special.
My overall rating of the Minecraft Movie is a 6.2/10 mainly because of the acting and because it is based on a very memorable game most of us used to play.
