Are you someone who likes freeze tag, video games with lots of reading, and Michael Myers? Behaviour Interactive, an indie game developer located in Canada, has just the game for horror and freeze tag fans: Dead by Daylight!
Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer horror-themed video game released in 2016. The game's basic concept involves four players, called survivors, running around a creepy enclosed area while repairing generators to power an exit gate. The twist is that a fifth player, the killer, hunts the survivors down while they work. Both survivors and killers have perks that provide advantages in the trials. A part of the game requires creating different combinations of perks and collaborating as a team to outsmart the killer before they eliminate all the survivors. Or, if the player chooses a killer, they focus on using the perks to capture their opponents.
My friend introduced me to the game a few months back, and I still have no clue what I’m doing. I understand the basic concept of the game, repair the generators and escape, but when it comes to execution, I completely fall short. At the moment, my only strategy is to pray that the killer picks any of my three other teammates because I haven’t memorized the maps yet. I don't even know what half of the perks for both survivors and killers do, I’m extremely lost.
However, I do find the game fun even though I have no clue what I’m doing. There are collaborations with different horror movies and games, such as Resident Evil, that let the player play as characters that appear in the games. For example, I could play Leon Kennedy going up against Michael Myers! Also, I enjoy customizing my character before matches. Would the killer see me better in a cute, bright red flannel top? Maybe! But it matches my character's outfit, so I don’t care.
Dead by Daylight is an incredibly fun game to play with friends, even if it can be complicated for new players like me. The suspense of sneaking around the killer and saving teammates from being eliminated (although I am bad at it) is surprisingly fun. Mostly scary, but fun. Players can find this game on PC, PlayStation 4-5, Nintendo Switch, and even on a phone.
