Soccer season is coming in hot! Coming in is another player who’s ready to play another season. Lisbett Diaz-Rodas was in varsity last year and will continue into this new season for her senior year. “I played for three years, playing left and right back, also left and right wing,” she said. She isn't in any clubs, but plays Sunday leagues, which gives her enough training to come into the season hot!
Even though soccer is a very competitive game and it gets hard to go against other schools, “I try not to give up, and I am committed to the game,” she says, not letting it go to her head. When it comes to teamwork, it’s “very fundamental in a team” and there must be trust. Lisbett believes that if there is no trust, there is no team, and no team leads to no wins. As a teammate from the soccer team, learning to rely on one another helps build up skills. Lisbett notices what the team needs and improves on it.
“Soccer has encouraged me to speak out more, and have leadership skills when necessary. It also has encouraged me to meet new people,” she said. Even though she gets less time to take a break, she keeps on going whether her legs want to give out or she’s out of breath. Her love for soccer gives her strength. In the team, “I reflect on what I did, and what we did as a team, both positives and negatives to know what we need to improve on or what we have achieved,” she said. Though there is always room for improvement, “I’d like to improve dribbling and shooting,” she notes since there were a couple of mishaps. But, she’s determined to make goals for the upcoming season!
She has high hopes for the upcoming season and will do her best for herself and the team. Lisbett will give it her all to make her last season memorable.
