Mr Hawks has won the first ever teacher of the month award, for the month of December. Mr Hawks highlights our core values of being kind, compassionate and gracious.
Mr Hawks did not see this coming. “I am shocked. I appreciate the support from the students. I definitely did not expect it and was very surprised,” said Hawks.
The teacher of the month award allows students to acknowledge contributions staff members make. “I think that teachers will appreciate the recognition from students. The snacks and drinks are an awesome bonus, but I think knowing students chose the teacher is the best part,” said Hawks.
All teachers are looking forward to the beverage cart with snacks. The students are even more excited for their favorite teacher to win. Michael Siguenza the 2024 first semester Alpha Wolf winner described Mr Hawks as understanding and uplifting.
“I think Mr. Hawks was an amazing choice for teacher of the month. He truly is dedicated to impactful teaching and ensuring each of his students thoroughly understands the material he teaches,” said Siguenza. “Although he can be a stickler for rules sometimes, he always has his students’ best interests at heart.”
Mr Hawks has a positive proposal for future teacher of the month snacks. “One of the main snacks I got was chips, which is awesome, but it is a big bag of chips that makes it harder to share with students. If all snacks came in little bags, it would be easier to share with students,” said Hawks.
Mr Hawks and many teachers alike, enjoy sharing their snacks with other students, because those same students are sharing their snacks with the teachers. When the teachers win the awards, they are not obligated to share, but with Mr. Hawks’ kind spirit, he wants to share with students but it is difficult when there are only big bags of chips. The snack cart was made with good and positive intentions for the teachers. But some of them would also like to share with their classes.
In the months to come hopefully we get to see more staff win like: custodians, office staff, Nurses, counselors etc. They have all done something to help students become the best they can be.
“I absolutely think custodians should be able to get the award and students should be encouraged to vote for them if that is allowed. We have amazing custodians. I think that the award could be done for students, on a smaller scale though. We have multiple students of the month, but I think they would appreciate some snacks,” said Hawks.
