Girls Robotics teams at WHS constructed an outstanding robot for the competition on October 12.
The Girls Robotics competition was hosted here at Wyoming High School and was planned by Mrs. Oostdyk. The competition brought many kids from different teams. They were either put on a blue or red team and the color would alternate between rounds. Each team worked together to create a plan. The objective of the game was to get as many points as possible in a round, the Wyoming girls team is called the Demons 858 and in total, they got 37 points in round two.
The WHS Girls Robotics team is made up of 6 players with different positions. Stephenie opens up the machine, Kelly directs the coach with hand motions. Katlin is the coach and she directs the driver Rachel to where she needs to go and Sofia takes pictures as the media person. They all have positions that make the teamwork, this way they all can be focused on one thing. When asked what was the hardest part of the competition Kelly stated “ Talking to different people, and having to coordinate with other teams as well,”.
Their robot was made through the game crescendo, which is the game that was played at the competition. The robot will pick up a note from the floor like for example the wheel, then it will go to the transmission throwing arm and will shoot into the machine that collects the wheels. The girls had to get as many wheels as possible into the machine, their stargate was fascinating. They worked with two other teams. They were shooting the wheels across the mats and a 4003 robot was shooting them into the machine that collected points and before their time ran out they had to be in the triangle of their team color. Also hanging from the chains above the triangle would get them more points.
