As an officer of Key Club we want to make it a safe place for members to come and enjoy being a part of Wyoming’s club culture. Many students that come for the first time to “see what the club is about” end up enjoying it more than they thought, and become a fully committed member by the end of the year. Key Club meets every other Thursday after school from 2:20 pm to 3:00 pm. This allows students to also engage in other activities throughout the week, and allows them to volunteer and participate around the school.
For club president Tina Vo,the organization has had an impact on how she views WHS. “ ,” Vo said.
Vo, is a Junior at Wyoming, she is a part of many clubs around the school. Some of the clubs she is affiliated with is, Student Council, Junior Committee, National Honors Society, Wyoming Culture Club, AW11 Committee, Wyoming Girls Tennis, National Art Honors Society and Key Club. Not to mention the AP classes she has, Tina has shown that you can be a part of the school no matter what you have in front of you. She has the discipline and Grit to make time for her: homework, clubs, family and free time.
Club editor Michael Siguenza also shares the same ideas. “Key Club has changed my perspective of the school by allowing me to assume more of a leadership position, allowing me to make a bigger impact on the school,” he said. “It has also shown me that I can help people and can take initiative to guide and help others how to lead. And I think that’s amazing.”
You may hear Siguenza during the second hour’s morning announcements. He is full of school spirit and club spirit. Michael joined Key Club last year because of an event the club had hosted, he wanted to see “what it was all about” and was drawn to it afterwards. “At first I wanted to run for any available position in Key Club, because having a leadership position in the first place was the only important thing I had in mind,” he said. “I’m very glad I got the editor position, because I feel like I am a people person and feel like I can talk to people easily. It is genuinely the perfect position for me.”
All of the officers agree that having Michaels open persona makes Key Club become a safe space for the underclassmen and also teaches future officers that all you need is a welcoming persona.
As Key Club officers, we believe that this club year is going to come with a lot of changes, potential mistakes and growth. “My goal this year for Key Club is to make sure everyone feels like it’s a safe and welcoming place to be, whether you’re a committed member or not, just know it is a great place to make connections and friendships and just have something to confide on to make your high school experience a little more enjoyable,” Vo said.
On the other hand, Siguenza is determined to be the change. “ I’m very passionate about service projects,” he said. “I want to have more projects done this year with our club members involved, that is my goal. Personally, if we have the ability to do so we should do it.”
Siguenza is a senior at Wyoming. He is also a part of many notable clubs and sports teams such as Student Council, Boys Tennis, Wrestling Boys Golf and also takes AP classes.. This just comes to show that whether you are a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior, Being involved in school and having a personal life is possible, anything is possible. Finding the best schedule fit for you, will definitely help in the long run.
