Everyday is a great day to recognize the hard work and dedication to the custodians. They are super important to us for keeping our environments clean and safe. But there’s a special day dedicated to them: October 2nd.
I decided to interview Sabrina Reminga for National Custodian Appreciation Day.
Did you know that October 2nd is National Custodian Appreciation Day?
“I did not know, until Mr. Baumbach told me, and I was like oh, that’s cool, that’s cool that there’s a day for that. I did not know”.
Do you wish to be more appreciated?
“I mean, I feel like everyone wants to be appreciated, for the most part, I appreciate the kids who do the right thing, they take care of their stuff. For the most part I love my job. I love being able to come here and work with you guys, just kinda watch you all do your own thing and be your own people, it’s really fun for me to just watch people”
What does a typical day look like for you?
“It’s very busy, usually. I get here at 10 o’clock because I only work part-time, cause I have a daughter, a young daughter, so I can’t work full time. So I get here and get all my stuff ready. I get all of my little bins to help clean up.
After A lunch there’s a lot of picking up trash that didn’t get taken care of and emptying the trash for you guys and then C lunch doing the same thing. I have to clean the eatery and the kitchen so that everything is nice and clean in there for you guys. It’s just a lot of cleaning, a lot of sweeping, a lot of mopping, it’s not bad, consistency for me works really well when I can do the same thing and know what my schedule is supposed to be. It’s nice.”
Is our school messy?
“It has its moments, it has times. For the most part, this year, I’ve noticed that the kids are generally doing a really good job cleaning up after themselves after lunch this year. There are times obviously when there’s events and stuff it can be. It’s generally not that bad”.
What was your worst clean up?
“Just recently, there was somebody… I hate, I hate, bodily fluids. It’s terrible. I don’t know why I signed up for this job if I don’t like bodily fluids. Somebody wasn’t feeling well and they threw up in the bathrooms, pretty much all over the bathroom. It was not in the toilet. It wasn’t fun but I had to take care of it”.
