Sports are something that one day, you can randomly become interested about. That’s how Sophomore Jazmayra Hernandez begain playing softball. Now she is on the Wyoming High softball team.
“I was really interested in 7th grade when I was in a relationship with one of my girlfriends and I realized we’re going to spend more time with each other. I can make friends because it’s a really good sport to socialize. I wouldn’t change it because it just lets me get experience with new people,” Jazmayra mentioned.
If you look at the softball team for Wyoming, you will see that she has been playing for quite some time, but it hasn’t always been her favorite thing.
“I’ve been playing for four years,” she said. “I had a lot of doubts about quitting in eighth grade and freshman year. It was the coaches, the people, it was the environment. It was really toxic. I just didn’t like it but I started just vibing and just started exiting myself from the situation.”
Although there can be some down sides to softball, there are also many positive things and people that make it all worth it.
“I connected a lot with Anessa Perez, me and her got really close throughout the years. We just vibe; we also have handshakes. I also got really close with Blen Brookhouse, and I never met her till softball and me and her just got really close because of the sport,” Jazmayra said.
Some students enjoy watching sports more than others, this is shown by the way the student section looks. “I would say some of the sports are really good, but not most of them,” she said.
“I feel like the student section could be improved at the girls games because most students only go to the boys games,” she said.
Having a team is like having a family you can constantly count on. Jazmayra understands this well.
“You can always rely on someone being early and not being rude to somebody because they can’t play,” she said.
“It’s like sisters, it’s like blood when you hang out with the same group of girls for months.”
