I’ve watched many foreign shows, but High Tides that streams on Netflix is by far the best foreign show I’ve watched.
There are many different opinions on whether or not foreign shows are good to watch or not. Foreign shows have much more drama involved than regular American shows or TV. Although it may be tough to understand, with English captions it is not that bad. Some people may think that the mouth movements of foreign shows throw off the show and make it look fake or not ideal.
High Tides is about a group of young teens who spend their summer at the Belgian seaside. These teens spend their summer looking for love and friendship but they tend to face a lot of adversity. As of right now, there is only one season with about 10 episodes because it is a fairly new show but there will be a new season on the way.
There are many reasons why I enjoyed the show. One reason I enjoyed High Tides was because there were so many relatable characters and scenes. For example, Dann (Eliyha Altene), one of the main characters of the show and one of the only black people in the show, was new to Belgium, while the others lived there their whole lives. I say that’s relatable because it can be very uncomfortable to be around people you’ve never been around before and many people experience that. At the beginning of the show, Dann had gotten a job at the seaside cafe for the summer where he was bullied by a group of teens whom he befriends later on in the show.
The plot of the show is also another reason why I enjoyed the show. The ending of the show made me want to see the next season come out and that’s always a good thing. In High Tides, there are twists and turns in every episode, making the show more enjoyable to watch. When shows have lots of plot twists throughout the show, it makes the person watching it want to continue watching in just one setting.
I recommend this show to romance and drama lovers. With all the love and good and bad problems included in the show, you would love it. Overall this show is a 10/10, coming from someone who doesn’t regularly watch shows. I can’t wait till the next season is out, and if you watch the show, you will not be disappointed.
