A teacher in room 1213 is always there to bring you a smile, help you with work, and be there when you just need a friend.
Mrs. Bernatowicz teaches Spanish for all grade levels. She teaches Spanish 1,2, and 3 helping every kid in her classes advance their knowledge.
She hasn’t always been a Spanish teacher, so what did she do before?
“I was an accountant my second or third year of college, I got a job working for CPA, and then a year into it, I realized I was not really into it,” Mrs. Bernatowicz said.
“I had always wanted to be a teacher, but I’d never thought about it hard enough to talk to one of my counselors at the college and then they recommended me for elementary education so I went for a couple of days just to observe and just do a little fieldwork, and I was terrified. So I came back to the college and he said, ‘Is there a subject you would like to teach’ and the only thing I could think of was Spanish.”
She hasn’t always found it the easiest being a teacher at this school, some hard things throw her off. “I feel like sometimes not all of our students aren’t necessarily the best at attendance or they have issues where they can’t get to school or they have issues where they are struggling with focusing on school and that can be difficult,” she said. “Outside of that, I don’t think it’s hard at all to show up to work every day because even with some of the hurdles, it’s a lot of rewarding moments being able to help students.”
As much as she loves being a teacher, she also has her own life outside of it. “On weekends I loaf around a lot in the mornings and start my day very slowly, but then when I’m finished doing chores or anything I need to do around the house I like to read, I like to binge a couple of Netflix shows, or hang out with my kids if they have time.” She said.
Some people don’t think teachers have a life outside of school, but they do. “I love to walk outdoors, I just love to plug in my music and just take in the fresh air and look at nature,” Said Mrs. Bernatowicz.
“It’s very relaxing for me and it keeps me a little fit.”
She is a very positive and upbringing person who can make anyone’s day good and always finds the good in everything, especially in her job. “Teaching has impacted my life for good. I don’t know what I would do to get motivated daily if I were still an accountant.” She said.
“I think it would be very difficult to get up in the morning because if there’s no purpose then it’s hard to get yourself going but teaching gives me purpose and I have fun with it.”
Her students are an example of why she is such a good teacher. Every student has only said nice things about her.
“My favorite thing about Mrs. Bernatowicz is that she is the best person to go to for comfort,” Gabrielle Lango said.
“She makes me feel like a better version of me whenever I’m in her class or with her.”
Overall, Mrs. Bernatowicz is an amazing Spanish teacher who represents everything Wyoming High School stands for.
