At Wyoming High School we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by decorating all around the school.
The Latinx Literature class, taught by Ms. Tran decorated all of the school. They were divided into five groups and they got to choose what part of the school they’d like to decorate. Two groups worked on the two white boards located in the halls that were decorated with bright colors and a special hispanic woman named Frida Kajl.
The rest of the groups decorated the halls with things like flags, bright color pom poms and pinatas.
Students put a lot of time working on the decorations.. “It seems like we spend a lot of time on it,” Ms. Tran said, “probably over two weeks.”
Another group in Latinx Literature worked on the Spirit Week ideas and they even took some pictures of some participants. That same group also was required to advertiseSpirit Week. They did this by creating fliers and putting it on announcements to help remind students about the Hispanic Heritage Month Spirit Week. The spirit week was as follows: ( Monday)- Heritage Shirt Day, (Tuesday)- dress up as a role model/actor/charcter, (Wednesday)- Jersey Day, (Thursday)- Sombrero/Cowboy Hat and finally (Friday)- Dos De Los Muertos( Day of the Dead). Students who participated were enthusiastic.
Many classes at Wyoming High School have incorporated Hispanic Heritage Month into their lesson plans. Mr. Vangorp had classes read an article about Frida Kaji and showed how she overcame a lot and still managed to make a change.
