Staying organized can be difficult in high school! With all the homework, studying, extracurricular activities, and keeping up with time, staying organized can be frustrating.

I’ve come up with a list of tips and tricks for you to stay organized this school year!

- Go to bed early. I’m sure you have heard this all your life, and although it seems simple, it isn’t always! Have a set time for when you’re going to sleep, and follow through with your plan.

- Get your homework done right away. Let’s admit, we’ve all been there. Procrastination is real. You wait all day, dreading to do your homework; and soon enough, it’s late and you forgot about your work! The best thing to do is to just get all your assignments done right after school. You won’t have to worry and can actually enjoy your day, and be in bed early!

- Set an alarm! Or 2.. Or 5.. Waking up in the morning to get ready for school can be such a hassle. Make sure you have a few alarms set, to make sure you actually wake up. Sleeping in on the morning of school is so stressful. You need time to get ready, have a good breakfast, and get to class on time.

- Making sure you have a healthy breakfast in the morning. Having a good, nourishing breakfast boosts your energy for the day and can make you happier! They always say “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” and following this rule can make your day so much better, and you might feel more productive!

- Make sure you have all your supplies. Keeping a pencil case filled up with pencils can help you keep all your pencils, pens, highlighters etc. all secure and in one place.

- Label your folders and notebooks for each class. Keeping all of your papers in one folder for each class will really help you stay organized as you go through your school day.

- Buy a planner. Planners can be extremely useful when it comes to school if you use them. I write down all my due dates for each assignment I have. It’s a good reminder, and keeps you on track of what needs to get done! If you don’t like writing things down, check if your phone has a reminder app! I also use this app all the time. Just set times as to when you should be starting on your homework, or studying for that test.

- Once a week, you should clean out your backpack. Take 10 minutes out of your day to just clean out your bag and throw away the things you don’t need! If you use your locker, you should clean that out too. Stay uncluttered and so will your brain!

- Check your grades. Staying on top of your grades is vital to keeping your school life organized. The app StudentVUE makes it especially easy to just check your grades at anytime, anywhere! I use this app daily.

- Sometimes having a study buddy with you will encourage you to actually sit down and get some study time in. A great way to study is to make cue cards. I personally do this when I study because it really helps me to start thinking! You can test yourself or have you and your friend take turns testing each other. Studying is extremely important for your academics because it can really improve your grades if you make the time for it.
