Balancing School, Work, and Sports

Life of a student athlete.

Balancing school, sports, and a job can be tough for lots of people. Especially having to maintain a social life and deal with your own personal problems. Coming from someone that has been going through a handful of things recently, I can say from experience that it is not easy. There are going to be days where you don’t feel like getting out of bed, when you don’t have motivation. It is okay to not be ok 24/7.
During softball season, my schedule is chaotic, to say the least. Going right from school to my house to change and come back for practice. Then, right from practice to go home and change for work and go straight there until 9pm. So, not being home for more than 20 mins from 7am-9pm, doesn’t give me much time to hangout with friends, go places for dinner, or do extra activities.
Now imagine yourself getting home, being exhausted, and going straight to the shower, just to get out and want to get ready for bed, but can’t because you have homework to do. So it’s either you choose to be healthy and get 8 or more hours of sleep, or do some work and get less than 7 hours of sleep. It’s a constant cycle, but it will hopefully pay off in the long run.
Setting priorities is a major step to take in order to stay on track. There are some days when you have to make the decision of whether or not to rest, or finish your responsibilities. It’s going to be hard, stressful, and exhausting. Just keep going strong with a good mindset, and try your best.
Coming from a student athlete, my advice is to just do what’s best for you, and figure out how you’re going to do it.
