Ginny and Georgia Review

Ginny and Georgia Review

Welcome to Wellsbury, MA

Ginny and Georgia…so much compacted into just 10 episodes. This show reflects real life issues, like racism, sexism, and self identity, the overall show was just utterly relatable. Ginny & Georgia is an amazing show, I haven’t seen a great show like this in a minute.
Ginny and Georgia, created by Sarah Lambert, follows a 30 year old single mother and her two kids starting over in a new town. Georgia Miller, played by Brianne Howey, is the fiery single mother ready to do anything and I mean anything to protect her kids, Virginia “Ginny” and Austin Miller. Ginny Miller, played by Antonia Gentry, is the angsty teenager that every teenager around the world can relate to. She is always the “new kid” since her mom is always moving her kids around so they always have to start over at a new school. But this time was different for Ginny: she made friends, got a boyfriend, and she was really starting to like Wellsbury, Massachusetts, she was ready to start calling that place home. Austin Miller, played by Diesel La Torraca, is the 9 year old half brother of Ginny Miller, and also has a lot going on when it comes to starting at his new schoo in Wellsbury. Along with starting over at a new school, Ginny also has to deal with all the secrets her mom has kept from her when Georgia Miller’s past comes to take a bite out of the good life she is trying to give her kids. All the secrets rise to the surface and Georgia can’t do anything but let it boil over, because it’s time that her kids know all the secrets she’s been keeping from them and why.
One of the best things about this show is it reflects real life issues. Racism being one of them. Ginny being a mixed child, her mother being caucassian and her dad being African-American, she never really knew who she was or who she was supposed to be, or where she fit in. Is she an African-American that should join leadership clubs, or are the rich snobby caucassians like everyone in Wellsbury? Throughout the whole show she is focused on trying to fit in with everyone else, instead of just being her.
Ginny and Georgia is the show to watch right now on netflix so if you haven’t already, go watch it, you will not be disapointed. Ginny and Georgia has only been out for a month and it has been number one show for quite some time and after watching it I can see what all the hype is about. All I can say now is, I can’t wait for season 2!
