Detroit Lions Sign Tyrell Williams

Detroit Lions Sign Tyrell Williams

The Detroit Lions have signed former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Tyrell Williams for a one-year deal up to 6.2 million.

The Lions wide receiver corps will be thankful for this signing at wide receiver, as it is a major need right now with only Quintez Cephus and Geronimo Allison (opted out) under contract for the next football season.

The wide receiver room might be completely altered for next season with Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr, and Danny Amendola set to become free agents before the next season. Setting the Detroit Lions back for next season wide receiver-wise. Hints at the signing of Tyrell Williams to establish a good receiver corps for the Detroit Lions newly acquired quarterback Jared Goff.

Tyrell Williams has been a pretty good wide receiver in his career with the Chargers and Raiders. In 2019 with the Raiders he had a pretty good season, but it was cut short due to his torn shoulder labrum that required surgery knocking him out of 2 games in that season. With the Chargers, he had two decent seasons reaching 728 and 653 yards in both seasons reaching around a wide receiver two/three status with the Chargers and Raiders.

I assume this is also a good signing because of the Anthony Lynn and Tyrell Williams connection they had back when Anthony Lynn was the head coach of the Chargers from 2017-2020 and he coached him from 2017-2018 when Tyrell was a wide receiver with the Chargers.

Overall, this a very solid signing for Brad Holmes and company in the front office. It shows great sophistication when it comes to giving wide receivers the money they are actually worth and not some overpriced deal for a wide receiver that can fill in the second and third wide receiver positions.
