Sexism Causes Body Issues

Tara Black, Writer Person

Girls are told to cover themselves

Guys are told to show more muscle

We have become ashamed of our bodies

Showing skin means being a slut

Not showing skin means being a tease

The words of how disgraceful we are get shoved down our throats

Girls are told being fat means being ugly

Guys are told gaining weight and muscle means being sexy

We have become ashamed of our bodies

Dress codes are ropes that tie us down

We get dress coded for finally being confident in showing our skin

“You’re a distraction to guys.”

Guys can’t keep their eyes and their hands to themselves

We have become ashamed of our bodies

Guys have shaped the minds of women that being skinny and having curves is what’s sexy

What’s sexy is however you’re shaped, everyone is “Sexy”

We have become ashamed of our bodies

I have become ashamed of my body

Because of guys, I don’t wear clothes that show off my skin

Because of guys, I don’t wear dresses

Because of guys, I have become less confident

I have become ashamed of my body

The first time I was catcalled was when I was 12

It made me feel bad about myself

What did I do to get a response like that from a male stranger?

Being sent to the office by a male teacher for being a distraction

thinking I was ugly because of that

I have become ashamed of my body
