K-pop is Korean pop music. It has been around since the 90s but when boy group, Seo Taiji & the boys emerged, the K-pop industry changed. Recently, K-pop has gotten so huge taking over the world and it’s all because the biggest boy group, BTS, formed in 2013. Since then, they’ve developed a huge fan base who go by the name ‘Army”. BTS has seven members which consist of leader/rapper Namjoon Kim, vocalist Seokjin Kim, rapper Yoongi Min, rapper Hoseok Jung, vocalist Jimin Park, vocalist Taehyung Kim and vocalist JungKook Jeon. These are seven handsome, talented, charming and compassionate guys who are breaking records, making history, and inspiring people around the world.
This K-Pop group has won many awards. They were the first Korean act to go to the Grammys and the first Koreans to present an award. Their album Love yourself: Tear became the first Korean Album to be recognized by the recording Academy for the best recording package category. In addition, BTS has two albums and four songs that have gone either platinum or gold and had stadium concerts sold out and packed. Besides the abundance of awards and great music, people who are not fans probably wonder why are they so popular and why they’re talked about a lot. The K-Pop group is admired because they are humble, they bring happiness to fans, they have great messages/stories in their songs, and they have created a close relationship with their fanbase.
I asked a few fans some questions along the lines of how has BTS impacted their life, how they found out about them, and their favorite aspect of the band. These interviews were performed online through a website for BTS fans
One fan told me that she had discovered them in May when they were on Saturday night live and immediately got hooked on to them.“They are a soul group who are raising the frequency of love on the planet. I am 74- years-old and I feel like a teenager,” She said.
Another fan from Pakistan said to me that they make her happier and more optimistic. She found out about them while watching their choreography, and she thought they were phenomenal. This fan claims she loves them because they are different from other artists because they’re passionate about what they do. I personally agree with these responses.
BTS has raised over 1.4 million dollars for their Love Myself anti-violence campaign and attended a meeting at the UN headquarters on September 24, 2018, to give a speech. The speech was very moving and inspirational but the part that truly touched fans was when Leader Namjoon spoke and said, ” I would like to ask all of you. What is your name? What excites you and makes your heart beat? Tell me your story. I want to hear your voice, and I want to hear your conviction. No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin color, gender identity: Speak yourself.” Of course the whole speech was amazing but that part was ingrained in the audience’s heart.
BTS is not just some boys group with crazy teenage fans as it is believed – That is not the case at all. The BTS Army is made up of all ages, genders, and races. BTS are seven humble men that inspire people, give hope and stand for peace, and create music for all.
