Valentine’s Day is Overrated

This has to be the dumbest thing to celebrate ever. I don’t understand why we need to celebrate love and affection if love isn’t even an emotion. What people are really feeling is actually Euphoria (euphoria= a feeling or state of intense excitement and happiness).
“In the scientific community, the conservative definition of emotion is a facial expression. Happiness, sadness, disgust, anger, surprise: these and the other basic emotions can be seen easily on the face.” – The Anatomy Of Love
So what’s the point in celebrating? I mean seriously you could show your endearment towards a significant other any other day. Why does it have to be a specific day? People can buy gifts for someone any day in the year, but people make it specific for one day, I don’t understand.
I personally feel like it is so stupid that people are celebrating Valentine’s Day. People in relationships tend to break up around Valentine’s Day so they don’t have to celebrate. Which makes the whole day so freaking stupid it is unbelievable. Then there are also stores and restaurants who promote Valentine’s Day isn’t because it’s something great to celebrate, but because they want the money people tend to spend on that day. Businesses are making it sound like the best day to show your ‘love’ for someone when you can show your ‘love’ for someone any day of the year.
I’ve told people about me not supporting Valentine’s Day, and how it is stupid, and some of the responses I’ve gotten were people telling me I need to be in a relationship. Not only that, but some people have also told me that I wouldn’t understand celebrating Valentine’s Day because I am not in a relationship at the moment. Just because I’m single doesn’t mean anything, even if I was to get into a relationship the whole celebrating thing would still be stupid in my eyes. The whole day is just pointless, there are a lot of people who don’t even celebrate it. Not only that but people who are single have to watch ‘how wonderful it is to be in a relationship’ and all that garbage.
Valentine’s Day in my eyes is just another pointless thing people celebrate.
