If you are a person who loves reading and eating food, the WHS Book Club is the place for you. Ms.Tran thinks it is important for teachers to be interested in books so that students also find their love of reading. In the month of November, they read the book Ink by Alice Broadway.
“Book Club was created to generate excitement about reading, ” Ms.Tran states.
There is a process for choosing the book selection each month. Book Club members choose a genre, and Ms.Tran picks the specific title. Every month there’s a fresh book choice.
Each month, members anticipate what the choice will be. Ms. Tran makes them wait till the end of the meeting to open the box of fresh new books. To keep students interested in books she tries to find recently published books or genres students would like to read.
Members must be ready to discuss the book when they get to the meeting. They must always be open-minded about the books because they might find that they end up liking it.
It’s not too late to join Book Club. Club members receive a new book every month. There next meeting is on December on the 11th of this month. They meet once a month right after school and discuss what they liked about the book, what they disliked, and if they would recommend someone to read it. They like to rate the book. They also plan what they are going to eat in their meeting every month so that they don’t starve.
If you are interested in joining Book Club, please email Ms. Tran to let her know ahead of time that you want to join. This helps her know how many books to order for the next month. Book Club students fundraise by selling candy, so when they finish reading the book they are able to keep the book. Ms.Tran does buy the books out of her own money but in order for them to keep the books, club members must fundraise. So please help them out by buying candy from them.
